Most popular pet names of 2021

Are you planning on getting a new pet this year? Coming up with a name for your new furry family member requires some thought and creativity. To help us welcome in the new year and inspire your creativity we are celebrating the most popular pet names of 2021. These names have been recently released by Pet Insurance Australia based on their data of thousands and thousands of newly insured pets across the country.

Luna has once again topped the list for girl names, with Coco and Bella also featuring in the top five for dogs and cats. Archie and Simba took top place for boys, with Milo and Charlie sharing top five spots for dogs and cats.

Many popular names have reappeared including Luna, Coco, Bella, Willow, Lola for girls and Archie, Milo, Charlie, Leo, Ollie, Winston for boys. Some great new names have also emerged including Molly, Max, Loki, Ollie, Louis and Mochi.

Nadia Crighton from Pet Insurance Australia also offered some top tips for choosing your pet’s name:

• Does the name carry well when you call it out?

• Consider two-syllable names that are easier to hear for our pets

• Have a few names ready and see which one your pet suits best

• Chose a name that will suit your pet as they age
